RR Energy Industry has been established in Garh Umaria village. People from the village suffer from the ill-effects of industrialisation and the industry also forgot its corporate social responsibility.
Sukanti Sav, a mitanin from the Bastipur village, has been working with LSS for long and working in the village as health facilitator under TSC. The people of Bastipur village were suffering from the problem of safe drinking water. She organised meeting with the people of her hamlet and went to panchayat of the area.
When she did not get the response, she repeatedly arranged meetings with people from the village and apprising them of the problem that was created at the industry level. They prepared a written application, getting nod from the panchayat, submitted to the company and warned them of worse if the problem is not solved. The company was bound to approve the application under pressure of local people and as a result they put a new bore well in the hamlet within 15 days.
The work of advocacy by Sukanti Bai with support from LSS has encouraged the people of the area to fight for their rights.
